Courchevel was one of my favorite places I have been. From the christmasy feel with all the lights and festivities to the amazing skiing and view all around and the people who came to watch, it was really a great race. I had some troubles the first run but soon found out that so did everyone else in the race. I then tried to be solid the whole way down the second run which led to being to cautious on the flats where everyone passed me. All in all I am very happy to have more points but even more hungry to rip it harder next time.
After a terribly long drive back to Austria we are really in the christmas spirit. Some sledding, movie watching, sleigh riding and christmas caroling, I think we are ready for Santa!
White Elephant was hilarious this year. Not. I had the best present which were fireworks and they got taken away from me. I was soooooooo mad. Its ok I ended up with some good goodies! I am just getting into the christmas spirit and christmas is going to be over before I know it. All this snow, beautiful chalets, yummy food and cozy beds make me want to curl up and drink eggnog and sit by the fire with decorations everywhere. I just loooooveeeeeee the trees that are all light up here. I am going to find one in my yard and put lights all over it next year. Christmas is truly the best when you are with fun people and laughing and snuggled up in the mountains with lots of white fluffy stuff everywhere bundled up and have a red nose. All the hustle and bustle, the people shopping and running around the little village, bells and fur and love all around. The full moon tops the whole event off!
OMG I have to write a post about the food here. I have successfully gorged myself on amazing food. For a ski town that is very high in the mountains they have figured it out. I mean it is a proper palace so they probably have to send far out to bring us the best but I mean this is really good. Baby radish, fresh oysters, salmon, artichoke harts, peppers, shrimp, endless bottles of bubble water, and then the dessert comes and its amazing. I don’t think I have enough days here to try it all. Strawberries, figs and walnuts to put on top of pistachio Creme Brulee. Meringues and chocolate pudding and rice pudding and every cake you can imagine. I don’t think french women would be skinny if they stayed at this hotel, there is no other way then to fill yourself up with love!
I love France. Hailey and I were laughing at comparing stories about France. I love France and she hates it. But after this trip I think she can understand why I love it! Our hotel is very splendid. 5 course meals, ski in ski out, airport in the back yard with a kicker, people walk you to your room and carry everything for you, heated toilet seats, amazing desserts, and cozy christmas feel. I haven’t even been out on the hill, but I hear this place has amazing skiing, I am heading out now and I am super excited, its huge and beautiful!
I had my first podium in 4 years and it felt great. I love Trophies, ha ha I need some more for my collection! We raced a FIS race in Speikboden sud tirol and the girls swept the podium which was awesome for us. It was a good race to practice racing. Now we are on our way to France.
The top photos are from my first day trainin in Zell Am See which is where our team is based. It overlooks a the lake and its beautiful. Reminds me of skiing on Snow King overlooking the town. It has been super cold here the last week, very unlike europe. Lots of hot chocolates and bundling up. Lasse has been a little puff ball most of the time when we head out. Top photo is when Hailey and I got to go on a dinner date with him. He was very well behaved!
Here are some photos I took of a magnificent Maui Sunrise. It was a big North swell that morning so I stayed out to enjoy some early morning fresh air and yoga. I happened to find these clouds so captivating and it turned out they were. Enjoy!
We are finally in Europe and moved in. We are stationed in Kaprun Austria where we train in Zell Am See. We have had a couple of really loopy days here in Austria. Hailey and I came over together after a very very nice week off. I feel rested and ready to get going. We trained in Maria Alm the first day and after a whole pot of coffee and I was still about to sleep at the start of slalom so I decided to take it easy and do a lot of free skiiing and drills. Today we skied on the newly injected hill in the See and it overlooks a beautiful lake although we couldn’t see it from the snow storm that came through.
After training today we decided to start working on our new dance video and also get a lesson from Hailey in Taekwondo. She has been doing it since she was 2 and is quite impressive. I also introduced some Union yoga to the girls. I had a chance to attend a class in Maui with Samantha and now Im hooked. Its really a good thing to do on the road with your teammates.
